În 54 de regiuni din Texas a fost declarată stare de dezastru. Pe 250 de şosele şi autostrăzi nu se poate circula, cele mai mari aeroporturi din Houston au fost închise şi în multe zone ale oraşului oamenii nu mai pot merge decât cu bărcile. Sunt cel puţin cinci decese cauzate de vremea extremă şi zeci de mii de oameni evacuaţi. Iar prăpădul nu se opreşte aici pentru că meteorologii anunţă că urmează precipitaţii istorice.


Aşa arată acum Houston, un oraş cu o populaţie de peste 2 milioane de locuitori, cam cât Bucureştiul. Străzi acoperite de apă, case inundate, bărci care au luat locul maşinilor pentru deplasările prin localitate. Cartiere întregi sunt complet acoperite de ape.

Autorităţile spun că problemele abia acum încep.

Se adaugă aici, în afara caselor şi maşinilor distruse, şi pierderile provocate de întreruperea activităţii petroliere din Golful Mexicului, întreruperea electricităţii în 300 de mii de case şi anularea a mii de curse aeriene.
